Every project at Thor Metal Art follows a proven process — from that first phone call to the final bolt torqued on your new gate or railing. This post takes you inside a recent Coral Gables estate project: a custom aluminum entry gate with integrated intercom, flanked by matching privacy panels.
Phase 1: Design Consultation
The project began with a site visit. Karel Frometa met with the homeowner to assess the existing driveway opening (22 feet), discuss the architectural style (Mediterranean Revival), and review material options. The client wanted a gate that looked ornate but required minimal maintenance — the right use case for aluminum with a bronze powder coat.
After the consultation, we created 3 digital design concepts in 2D. The client selected a modified scroll design with a custom family crest as the centerpiece. Approval took two rounds of revisions before the project moved to fabrication.
Phase 2: Shop Fabrication
Fabrication took place in our Hialeah shop over 18 working days. The process involved:
- CNC plasma cutting of the main gate panels
- Water jet cutting of the ornamental crest (precision required for the fine detail)
- TIG welding of all structural joints
- Grinding, finishing, and sandblasting
- Zinc primer application and bronze powder coat curing
Phase 3: Site Installation
Installation required a two-day site visit. Day one: concrete footings for the gate posts and conduit for the electrical run. Day two: post setting, gate hanging, hardware installation, and motor programming. The intercom was connected to the existing home automation system.
The Result
The finished gate became the focal point of the property. The homeowner commented that three neighbors asked for our card within the first week. That is the best review we can get.
