From Sketch to Steel: Our Custom Metal Gate Process

Every custom metal gate at Thor Metal Art starts with a conversation and ends with a precision-installed piece of functional sculpture. If you have ever wondered what happens between your first call and the day your new gate is hanging on its hinges, this walkthrough is for you.

Phase 1: The Initial Consultation

Decorative hand-forged metalwork — Thor Metal Art process from sketch to steel

We start with a site visit. Karel Frometa personally meets with most clients to assess the opening, understand the architectural context, and discuss design preferences. No commitment required — this visit is free. We take measurements, photograph the site, and listen. Most clients arrive with a general idea; we help shape it into something buildable.

Phase 2: Design and Proposal

Within a week of the consultation, you receive a written proposal including design sketches, material specifications, and a fixed price. We do not work with open-ended estimates — you know exactly what you are paying before any work begins. If the design needs adjustment, we revise at no charge.

Phase 3: From Sketch to Steel

Once you approve the design and proposal, we move to shop drawings. These are precise engineering documents that guide every cut and weld. Material is sourced domestically, inspected on delivery, and staged in our Hialeah fabrication shop.

Fabrication involves cutting, forming, welding, grinding, and finishing. Most residential gates take 10–20 shop days depending on complexity. We provide progress photos during fabrication so there are no surprises at delivery.

Phase 4: Finishing

Every gate receives a multi-step finish: zinc phosphate primer for corrosion inhibition, then a marine-grade powder coat in your chosen color. This finish is baked at 400°F for maximum adhesion and durability — essential for Miami climate.

Phase 5: Installation

Our installation crew handles everything: post setting in concrete, gate hanging, hardware installation, and final adjustment. Automated gates include motor programming and a tutorial for the homeowner. We do not consider a job done until you are completely satisfied.
